Toro Cafe Vietnamese Food sits comfortably in Mount Waverley as a spot that blends the casual feel of a neighborhood cafe with the heartiness of a Vietnamese restaurant. Located on Hamilton Place, this venue works well for locals looking to settle in for breakfast or lunch without the fuss of formal dining. The atmosphere tends to be lively but relaxed, with a mix of regulars and visitors who appreciate a straightforward setting where the focus is on solid food and good coffee.

The menu reflects the hybrid nature of Toro Cafe—it's not just about pho or bánh mì, but a variety of meals that include all-day breakfast staples alongside Vietnamese classics. You’ll find options like the Toro Pork Chop Rice, teriyaki chicken rice, and pulled pork benedict, sitting comfortably beside coffee options brewed with St. Ali beans. This makes it a practical choice for both early risers grabbing a morning latte and those looking for a midday meal that's more substantial than a typical cafe offering.

Service here receives consistent praise for attentiveness and familiarity, especially from groups who visit regularly. Staff members are known to remember orders and preferences, which adds a personal touch to the casual dining experience. The seating is indoors with a bustling vibe that fills up quickly during peak times, notably on weekday mornings and weekends, when locals come by either before starting their day or for a social catch-up after activities like Pilates nearby.

Food portions strike a balance between generous and manageable, with burgers like the Schnitzel and Brekky Burger standing out alongside traditional Vietnamese dishes such as pho beef brisket and crispy pork belly with slaws. The fries here attract comments for being unexpectedly good, offering a crispness and flavor that outshines fast-food chains. Coffee shines as a key feature, delivering hot, reliably made drinks from espresso-based lattes to hot chocolate, often enjoyed alongside light bites like sourdough toast or egg sandwiches.

Toro Cafe is best suited for those who appreciate a blend of Vietnamese flavors with familiar cafe comfort food, alongside an emphasis on quality coffee. It's a versatile local spot for solo diners, groups meeting after exercise classes, or anyone who wants a fuss-free place to enjoy a meal that doesn’t stray far from homey while still offering something a bit different.

A hidden gem! Stumbled on it when around the area and feeling cold/hungry. The food is delicious! Had pho and pork chop. Not too salty, just right! Better than some at Footscray or Springvale. Pop by and be warmed ;)

What a fantastic Vietnamese Cafe. Honestly a staple of the area, a regular stop for us with a great selection of breakfast and lunch options. Service is very attentive, we grabbed the eggs Benedict and Pho and they were great choices at a resonance price. Coffee was excellent as well If in the area for breckie, check it out for something a bit different. Will be back

Vincent, Jade and Jo are the staff member that generally attend to our monashpilates group each Thursday after class. Jade is excetional, know all our orders off by heart. Make the perfect Chai Latte. Coffees are always hot and served to the table quickly. Well done all.... we enjoy visiting Toro Cafe.

No one welcomes you in, and yet there is a welcoming vibe in this cafe. When we visited for brekky, the cafe was full. It seems that there are many regulars, which most likely means that the cafe is good. We ordered a brekky burger, a chicken Schnitzel burger, a fried egg on toast, coffees and hot chocolate. Burgers were good. To me the fries (chips) tasted better than what you find in MacDonald's. The staff are nice and quick. Will be back for other food.

Friendly staff. Quick service. Good variety on menu, including sandwiches/croissant, pho, bahn mi, rice and noodle salads. Good coffee (using St. Ali coffee beans). Loyalty program for coffee and meals.

Highly recommend the Banh Mi here - made fresh to order, packed with flavour, and they use pate which many places do not. The crispy pork is carved fresh in front of you and is awesome. I'd eat from here again, really good! The atmosphere is irrelevant - it's a tiny shop but the food packs a punch. I also bought a takeaway family-sized spinach quiche which was also delicious.
